Eight films depicting the survival stories of humans braving the atrocities of war will be screened under the category ‘Framing Conflict’, at the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK 2022), to be held in Thiruvananthapuram from March 18 – 25. The category features masterpieces from filmmakers from countries as diverse as Afghanistan, Kurdistan and Myanmar.
Three very different films portray the various issues thrown up by the seemingly never-ending conflict in Afghanistan.

Sahraa Karimi’s Hava, Maryam, Ayesha details the dilemmas faced by three pregnant women under different social circumstances. The influence of religion and social beliefs on human beings is the subject of Navid Mahmoudi’s Drowning in Holy Water. Golden Globe winner Siddiq Barmak’s Opium War is another visual treat under this category.
Also being screened under this category are two films focusing on the Iran- Iraq conflict – Hiner Saleem’s Kilometre Zero and Bahman Ghobadi’s Marooned in Iraq. Maung Sun’s debut film Money Has Four Legs; the 2019 Burmese thriller Stranger’s House; and Lamin Oo’s Three Strangers are also being screened under this category.
