Boy from Heaven is a political thriller that showcases the story of a boy caught up in Egypt’s religious politics.
The movie that won the award for best screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival will be screened under the category of World Cinemas at IFFK. It is also Sweden’s official entry for the best international feature film at the Oscars.
Boy from Heaven tells the story of Adam, the son of a fisherman, who is offered the opportunity of a lifetime to study at Al-Azhar University in Cairo. But due to the sudden death of the highest ranking religious leader in front of his students, Adam is caught in between the political struggles and ruthless battle for influence and is used as a pawn.
Boy from Heaven is directed by the well-known Swedish director Tarik Saleh and has been dubbed “Cairo Conspiracy” by critics.
Tarik’s previous movie set in Cairo was considered ‘critical’ in the portrayal of the national police force and was banned from Egyptian screens.
This would be the movie’s first screening in India.
