Thiruvananthapuram, June 01: Chief Minister, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan today informed that 57 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in the State while 18 patients have tested negative. He also announced the death of a heart patient in Kozhikode district who had come back from Gulf. This takes the number of Covid related deaths in Kerala to ten.

14 persons each from Malappuram and Kasargod districts, nine in Thrissur district, five from Kollam district, four in Pathanamthitta district, three each from Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam districts, two each in Alappuzha and Palakkad districts and one from Idukki district are those who tested positive.

Of these, 27 have returned to Kerala from overseas (UAE-11, Kuwait-10, Qatar-4, Saudi Arabia-1 & Russia-1) and 28 have come back from other states (Maharashtra-19, Tamil Nadu-4, Karnataka-3 & Delhi -2). An Air India employee and a health worker in Palakkad district are among those infected.

Seven patients from Malappuram district, three each in Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam districts, and one each from Pathanamthitta, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts are those who tested. The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the State is 1,326 and 708 are still under treatment in various districts.

There are in total 1,39,661 people under observation across the State. Of these, 1,38,397 are under home or institutional quarantine and 1,264 are isolated in hospitals. 174 persons were admitted to the hospital today.

Till now, 68,979 samples have been sent for testing and 65,273 samples have been confirmed with no infection. In addition, as part of Sentinel Surveillance of high-risk group people, 13,470 samples were collected and 13,037 samples have tested negative. In the last 24 hours, 2,990 samples have been sent for testing.

Five new places were declared as hotspots today, three in Palakkad district and two in Kannur district. There are presently 121 hotspots in Kerala.

The Chief Minister also informed the death of nine Pravasi Malayalees in the Gulf. So far 210 deaths have been reported abroad, among Keralites. He expressed his condolences to the families of those who died due to Covid, outside the State.
