Total 1,540 patients under treatment

Thiruvananthapuram, June 22: 138 new cases of Covid-19 cases were confirmed in Kerala today, the highest number of positive cases being reported on a single day so far, according to the Minister for Health & Social Justice, Smt K K Shailaja.

The district-wise details of the new active cases are 17 in Malappuram district, 16 from Palakkad district, 14 in Ernakulam district, 13 each from Kollam and Kottayam districts, 12 each in Alappuzha and Thrissur districts, 11 from Thiruvananthapuram district, nine in Kasargod district, five each from Kozhikode and Wayanad districts, four each in Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts, and three from Kannur district.

Of those diagnosed today, 87 are returnees from foreign countries (Kuwait-43, UAE-14, Qatar-14, Saudi Arabia-9, Oman-4, Bahrain-1, Russia-1 & Nigeria-1) and 47 from other states (Maharashtra-18, Tamil Nadu-12, Delhi-10, West Bengal-2, Uttar Pradesh-2, Karnataka-1, Andhra Pradesh-1 and Punjab-1). Four people have got infected through primary contact, two from Idukki district and one each from Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam districts. This includes a security guard at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.

At the same time, 88 patients who were undergoing treatment have tested negative today. 26 patients from Malappuram district, 18 in Kannur district, 11 from Palakkad district, nine in Ernakulam district, seven each from Kozhikode and Kozhikode districts, four each in Kottayam and Thrissur districts and two from Idukki district, are those who were cured of the disease. Till now, 1,747 patients have recovered from Coronavirus infection and presently, 1,540 patients are under treatment for the same.

A total of 1,47,351 people are currently under quarantine in various districts across the state. Of these, 1,45,225 are under observation at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 2,126 are isolated in hospitals. 241 persons were admitted to the hospital today.

During the past 24 hours, 4,734 samples were tested. So far, a total of 1,85,903 samples have been sent for testing and out of these, the results of 2,266 samples are awaited. As part of Sentinel Surveillance, 38,502 samples were also collected from high-risk groups and the results of 37,539 samples were negative. Today, four new places were declared as hotspots while one was excluded from the list. There are currently 112 hotspots in Kerala.
