12 new hotspots, total 169

Thiruvananthapuram, July 08: Minister for Health, Smt K K Shailaja has informed that 301 new active cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala today, the highest single-day tally so far while 107 patients have recovered today. Of the new positive cases detected today, 99 are those who arrived in the State from overseas, 95 from other states and 90 are cases of local transmission.

64 persons in Thiruvananthapuram district, 46 from Malappuram district, 25 each in Thrissur and Palakkad districts, 22 from Kannur district, 20 in Idukki district, 18 from Alappuzha district, 17 in Kottayam district, 16 from Ernakulam district, 15 in Kozhikode district, 14 from Wayanad district, eight in Kollam district, seven from Pathanamthitta and four in Kasargod district are those diagnosed with Coronavirus infection.

The country-wise list of the 99 from foreign countries are Saudi Arabia – 34, UAE – 24, Kuwait – 19, Qatar – 13, Oman – 6, Bahrain – 2 and Kazakhstan – 1. The 95 from other states are Karnataka 25, Tamil Nadu 21, West Bengal 16, Maharashtra 12, Delhi 11, Telangana 3, Gujarat 3, Chhattisgarh 2, Assam 1 and Jammu & Kashmir 1.

60 people in Thiruvananthapuram district, nine from Ernakulam district, seven in Malappuram district, five from Kozhikode, three in Alappuzha, two each from Pathanamthitta and Kottayam districts and one each in Kollam and Idukki districts are those infected through contact. Three health workers were also infected – two in Kottayam district and one from Idukki district. In addition to this, nine BSF personnel in Thrissur district, one CISF personnel and a Defence Service Canteen worker in Kannur district and three ITBP personnel in Alappuzha district were also infected.

Meanwhile, Manoj, a 24-year-old native of Kollam, who had died after coming back from Dubai, has tested negative at subsequent tests conducted at NIV, Alappuzha.

23 patients from Kollam district, 16 in Alappuzha district, 13 from Ernakulam district, 11 each in Thrissur and Malappuram districts, nine from Palakkad district, seven each in Kozhikode and Kasargod district six from Thiruvananthapuram district, three in Pathanamthitta district and one from Kannur district are those who tested negative today. So far, 3,561 patients have been cured of Covid and 2,605 patients are still under treatment.

A total of 1,85,546 people are currently under observation in various districts of the state. Of these, 1,82,409 are under surveillance at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 3,137 are isolated at hospitals. 421 persons were admitted to the hospital today.

At the same time, the number for tests has increased and in the last 24 hours, 11,250 samples were analysed. A total of 2,96,183 samples have been sent for testing and the results of 4,754 samples are yet to come. In addition, as part of Sentinel Surveillance, 65,101 samples were collected from high-risk priority groups and 60,898 samples were negative.

12 new places were declared as hotspots today even as four places were excluded from the list. There are at present 169 hotspots in Kerala.
