Thiruvananthapuram, July 19: Minister for Health, Smt K K Shailaja informed that 821 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala today, the highest single-day count so far. Of the cases detected today, 629 are cases of infection through contact and the source of infection of 43 cases is unknown. 110 are returnees from foreign countries and 69 have come back from other states.

Two deaths were also reported, Nafisa, a 75 year-old from Uppala in Kasaragod district and Kunjuveeran, a 67-year-old from Aluva in Ernakulam district. The Covid related death toll in the State is now 42.

222 persons from Thiruvananthapuram district, 98 in Ernakulam district, 81 from Palakkad district, 75 in Kollam district, 61 from Thrissur district, 57 in Kasaragod district, 52 from Alappuzha district, 49 in Idukki district, 35 from Pathanamthitta district, 32 in Kozhikode district, 25 from Malappuram district, 20 in Kottayam district, 13 from Kannur district and one from Wayanad district are those who tested positive for Coronavirus.

The district-wise details of the contact cases are 203 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 84 from Ernakulam district, 70 in Palakkad district, 61 from Kollam district, 48 in Kasaragod district, 34 from Alappuzha district, 28 in Idukki district, 27 from Thrissur district, 26 in Kozhikode district, 24 from Pathanamthitta district, 12 in Kottayam district, 10 from Malappuram district and two in Kannur district.

Thirteen healthcare workers were also infected, six from Thiruvananthapuram district, four in Ernakulam district and one each from Idukki, Kozhikode and Kasaragod districts.

Meanwhile, the test results of 172 patients who were undergoing treatment were negative today. 32 patients in Alappuzha district, 25 from Thiruvananthapuram district, 21 each in Thrissur and Kannur districts, 16 from Pathanamthitta district, 12 in Kasaragod district, 11 from Palakkad district, nine each in Kottayam and Kozhikode districts, eight from Ernakulam district, five in Idukki district and three from Kollam district are those who recovered.

So far 5,373 patients have been cured of Covid and 7,063 patients are still under treatment for the infection in the State.

1,70,525 people are under surveillance across the state. Of those being monitored, 1,63,216 are under home or institutional quarantine and 7,309 are in hospitals. 866 persons were hospitalised today.

During the last 24 hours, 18,267 samples were tested. Till now, a total of 5,32,505 samples have been sent for testing and the results of 5,060 samples are yet to come. Of these, 96,288 samples collected from priority groups such as health workers, guest workers and people with more social exposure as part of Sentinel Surveillance and 91,566 samples were negative.

26 new places were announced as hotspots today while seven were excluded taking the total number of hotspots in Kerala to 318.
