Thiruvananthapuram, July 25: Minister for Health, Smt K K Shailaja informed that 1,103 new active cases were confirmed in Kerala today. At the same time, 1,049 patients have recovered from the disease.

Of the cases detected today 838 are cases of local transmission and the source of contact of 72 patients is unknown. 119 persons have come back from foreign countries and 106 from other states. Four deaths were also reported.

240 persons from Thiruvananthapuram district, 110 from Kozhikode district, 105 from Kasaragod district, 102 from Alappuzha district, 80 from Kollam district, 79 from Ernakulam district, 77 from Kottayam district, 68 from Malappuram district, 62 from Kannur district, 52 from Pathanamthitta district, 40 from Idukki district, 36 from Thrissur district, 35 from Palakkad district and 17 from Wayanad district were those who tested positive today.

This includes the test results of Anne Antony, 76, of Ernakulam district, who died on July 24. The other deceased have been identified as Nabeesa (63) of Kasargod district, Ruhiyabi (67) and Mohammad Koya (58) from Kozhikode district, and Anjali Surendran (40) of Palakkad district. The death toll in the state due to Covid is now 59.

The district-wise figures of those infected through contact are 218 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 104 in Kozhikode district, 88 in Kasaragod district, 73 in Ernakulam district, 67 in Kottayam district, 63 in Kollam district, 49 in Alappuzha district, 38 in Malappuram district, 32 each in Idukki and Palakkad districts, 30 in Pathanamthitta district, 24 in Kannur district, 13 in Thrissur district and seven in Wayanad district.

21 healthcare workers were also infected. Eleven in Thiruvananthapuram district, four in Pathanamthitta district, two each in Kollam and Alappuzha districts, and one each in Kottayam and Ernakulam districts. In addition, two BSF personnel, three KFC employees, two KLF employees and eight KSC employees in Thrissur district, and three DSC personnel in Kannur District were among those infected by Coronavirus.

The district-wise figures of patients whose test results were negative today are 229 from Thiruvananthapuram district, 185 from Malappuram district, 150 from Pathanamthitta district, 77 from Ernakulam district, 70 from Alappuzha district, 62 from Kozhikode district, 50 from Kollam district, 49 from Kottayam district, 45 from Wayanad district, 37 from Thrissur district, 36 from Kannur district, 24 from Palakkad district, 23 from Kasaragod district and 12 from Idukki district.

Till now, 8,613 patients have been cured of Covid and 9,420 patients are still undergoing treatment.

1,54,300 persons under observation across the state, 1,45,319 under home or institutional quarantine and 8,981 in hospitals. 1,151 people were admitted to the hospital today.

22,013 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. A total of 6,53,982 samples have so far been sent for testing and of these, the test results of 6,637 samples are yet to come. 1,11,394 samples were collected from priority groups such as health workers, guest workers and people with more social contact as part of Sentinel Surveillance and 1,07,256 samples were confirmed with no infection/

Today 34 new hotspots were declared and six places were removed from the list. There are currently 481 hotspots in Kerala.
