Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 04: Covid-19 was detected in 1,083 persons in Kerala today even as 1,021 patients under treatment for the disease have recovered. According to the Minister for Health, Smt K K Shailaja, 902 people were infected through contact and source of infection in 71 cases is unknown.
51 of the new cases are those who arrived from abroad and 64 are from other states.
Three persons who died earlier were also confirmed to have Coronavirus – Jayanandan (53) from Thiruvananthapuram district and Rajesh (45) from Kozhikode district who died on August 01 and Gopi (69) from Ernakulam who died on August 02. This takes up the tally of Covid related deaths in the state to 87.
The new active cases are in 242 persons from Thiruvananthapuram district, 135 in Ernakulam district, 131 from Malappuram district, 126 in Alappuzha district, 97 from Kozhikode district, 91 in Kasaragod district, 72 from Thrissur district, 50 in Palakkad district, 37 from Kannur district, 32 in Pathanamthitta district, 30 from Kollam district, 23 in Kottayam district and 17 from Wayanad district.
The district-wise figures of locally transmitted cases are 237 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 122 in Ernakulam district, 118 in Malappuram district, 85 in Kasargod district, 78 in Kozhikode district, 75 in Alappuzha district, 55 in Thrissur district, 29 in Kannur district, 25 in Kollam district, 23 in Palakkad district, 22 people in Kottayam district, 17 in Pathanamthitta district and 16 in Wayanad district.
16 healthcare workers were also diagnosed with the infection today – five in Thiruvananthapuram district, four in Ernakulam district, three in Kozhikode district, two in Kasaragod district and one each in Wayanad and Kannur districts.
35 ITBP personnel in Alappuzha district, 11 KSE employees in Thrissur district and four INHS personnel in Ernakulam district were among those infected.
310 patients from Thiruvananthapuram district, 107 in Kottayam district, 103 from Kannur district, 94 in Malappuram district, 62 from Pathanamthitta district, 56 in Palakkad district, 55 from Alappuzha district, 49 in Ernakulam district, 45 from Thrissur district, 44 in Kozhikode district, 36 from Kollam district, 26 in Idukki district, 25 from Kasaragod district and nine in Wayanad district are those who tested negative today.
Till now, 16,303 people have been cured of Covid in the State and 11,540 patients are still undergoing treatment.
There are 1,45,062 persons under observation across the state, 1,34,140 at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 10,922 in hospitals. 1,241 people were hospitalised today.
20,087 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. A total of 8,58,960 samples have so far been sent for testing and the results of 7,595 samples are awaited. As part of the Sentinel Surveillance, 1,22,962 samples were collected from those with greater social exposure and the results of 1,522 samples are expected.
13 new places were demarcated as hotspots today while 10 were exempted. There are presently 509 hotspots in Kerala.
