Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 15: Chief Minister, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan has informed that 7,789 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Kerala today and at present, there are 94,517 patients under treatment for the same. 6,486 persons were infected through contact and the source of infection was unknown in 1,049 cases. There are 128 healthcare workers among those infected. Meanwhile, 7,082 patients have recovered from the disease today.
Today, 23 deaths were confirmed as due to Covid taking the death toll in the state to 1,089. The deceased were Kamalabhai (70), Sulochana (60), Leela (75), Narayanan (69), A V Krishnan (75), Shobhana (55), Noor Jahan (53), Revamma (59), Shakuntala (69), Thulasi (53), Abdul Salam (61), Fathima Beevi (88), Damodaran Nair (72), Sarath Sasidharan (29), Srinath (38) Thomas (71), Rajan (50) & Purushothaman (70) from Thiruvananthapuram district, Sulaiman Kunju (85) from Kollam district, Eliakutty (82) from Ernakulam district, Lazar (68) from Thrissur district and George (57) Babu (65) from Kozhikode district.
The district-wise numbers of the positive cases today are Kozhikode 1,264, Ernakulam 1,209, Thrissur 867, Thiruvananthapuram 679, Kannur 557, Kollam 551, Alappuzha 521, Kottayam 495, Malappuram 447, Palakkad 354, Pathanamthitta 248, Kasargod 311, Idukki 143 and Wayanad 143. Of those diagnosed, 126 have a travel history.
The figures for the locally transmitted cases are Kozhikode 1,195, Ernakulam 1,130, Thrissur 850, Thiruvananthapuram 350, Kannur 489, Kollam 550, Alappuzha 506, Kottayam 130, Malappuram 327, Palakkad 217, Pathanamthitta 226, Kasaragod 290, Idukki 85 and Wayanad 141.
The count of the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Malappuram 30, Thiruvananthapuram 15, Palakkad & Kannur 14 each, Kasargod 13, Alappuzha 11, Kottayam 10, Thrissur & Kozhikode 8 each, Ernakulam 2, and Kollam, Pathanamthitta & Idukki 1 each.
The district-wise numbers of patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 775, Kollam 794, Pathanamthitta 302, Alappuzha 465, Kottayam 178, Idukki 124, Ernakulam 719, Thrissur 550, Palakkad 441, Malappuram 1,010, Kozhikode 685, Wayanad 119, Kannur 650 and Kasaragod 270. So far, 2,22,231 persons have been cured of Covid in the State.
There are 2,74,672 people totally under isolation in various districts of the state, 2,49,001 under home or institutional quarantine and 25,671 in hospitals. 2,548 persons were admitted to the hospitals today.
50,154 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. Till now, a total of 37,76,892 samples have been sent for testing.
Seven new places were declared as hotspots today while 17 areas have been excluded. There are 644 hotspots in Kerala now.
