Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 21: Covid-19 was confirmed in 8,369 persons in Kerala today while 6,839 patients have recovered from the disease. 7,262 people were infected through contact and the source of infection was unknown for 883. There are 64 healthcare workers among those infected.

Meanwhile, 26 recent deaths were confirmed as due to Covid taking the death toll in the state to1,232. Abhijith (23), Vijayamma (58), Srikanthan Nair (57), Justin Albin (68) & Janardhanan (70) from Thiruvananthapuram district; Krishnan Kutty (80), Sudarshan Pillai (50), Shaji Gopal (36), Clement (69) & Ismail Seth (73) from Kollam district, Balan (69) from Pathanamthitta district, Rohini (62) from Alappuzha district; Sugunan (58), Alfred Correa (85) & T K Rajan (48) from Ernakulam district, Ummer (66) & Nabeesa (67) from Palakkad district; Lakshmi (75), Babu Lewis (52), Abu Baker (49), Jose (73), Krishna Kumar (53) & Velayudhan (78) from Thrissur district, Parukuttyamma (93) from Kozhikode district, and Madhavi (88) & C A Abdullah (55) from Kannur district, are the deceased.

The district-wise numbers for the new active cases are Ernakulam 1,190, Kozhikode 1,158, Thrissur 946, Alappuzha 820, Kollam 742, Malappuram 668, Thiruvananthapuram 657, Kannur 566, Kottayam 526, Palakkad 417, Pathanamthitta 247, Kasargod 200, Wayanad 132 and Idukki 100. Among those diagnosed with the disease, 160 have travelled to the state from outside.

The figures for the locally transmitted cases from the districts are Ernakulam 926, Kozhikode 1,106, Thrissur 929, Alappuzha 802, Kollam 737, Malappuram 602, Thiruvananthapuram 459, Kannur 449, Kottayam 487, Palakkad 200, Pathanamthitta 198, Kasargod 189, Wayanad 119 and Idukki 59.

The count of infected healthcare workers from the districts are Kannur 15, Thiruvananthapuram 12, Ernakulam 10, Kozhikode 7, Kottayam & Thrissur 6 each, Pathanamthitta 3, Malappuram & Wayanad 2 each and Kasaragod 1.

The district-wise figures of the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 705, Kollam 711, Pathanamthitta 330, Alappuzha 769, Kottayam 404, Idukki 71, Ernakulam 970, Thrissur 203, Palakkad 373, Malappuram 832, Kozhikode 705, Wayanad 92, Kannur 426 and Kasaragod 248. So far, 2,67,082 people have recovered from Covid in the State and presently there are 93,425 patients still undergoing treatment.

There are a total of 2,80,232 people under observation in various districts of the state, 2,57,216 under home or institutional quarantine and 23,016 in isolation at hospitals. 2,899 persons were hospitalised today.

During the last 24 hours, 62,030 samples were tested for Coronavirus. A total of 40,91,729 samples have been sent for testing until now. Six new places were demarcated as hotspots today while 17 areas were excluded. There are 617 hotspots in Kerala now.
