Revised target aims at one lakh job opportunities in Sep-Dec period

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 05: Kerala Chief Minister, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan today announced that the government has surpassed the target of creating 50,000 jobs in 100 days. Briefing the media, the Chief Minster said, “At the end of the two months period, 61,290 jobs have been created in the State. Today we are setting a new goal of creating another 50,000 jobs before the end of December. Thus the revised target is employment for one lakh people in four months (during the September to December).”

Government departments and other Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have employed 19,607 people including temporary employees. In addition, 41,683 jobs were created in enterprises which took loans from the government or financial institutions.

Giving further details, the CM said, “Kudumbasree has emerged as the largest job provider in the entrepreneur sector. Kudumbasree provided employment to 19,135 persons during September and October as against their target of 15,000. The highest number of jobs created was in micro-enterprises segment with 6,965 opportunities. 613 persons were employed in the Janakiya hotels opened after September, 2,620 people at home shops and marketing kiosks, 2,153 in Animal Husbandry and 1,503 in agricultural value-added enterprises. Kudumbasree has launched an extensive programme for job creation. We are going to conduct general awareness training for those who are interested in starting ventures.”

The Industries Directorate has created 12,325 jobs in the entrepreneurship sector. As part of the central stimulus package, 1.01 lakh people received an additional loan of Rs. 4,525 crores resulting in an estimated 1,200 additional jobs. The number of jobs created included industrial units through District Industrial Centres and units started under Kerala MSME Facilitation Act. 1,602 persons got employment in 500 ventures that took loans from Kerala Financial Corporation, Similarly, 1,490 persons have got employment from the loans from the Backward Community corporation, 4,030 from the loan given by the Co-operative Societies and 842 from the loan from the Fisheries department. 782 persons got employment in Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Development Corporations.

The Food and Civil Supplies Department (SupplyCo) has provided temporary employment to more than 7,900 people since September to pack the free food provision kits. The Public Education Department employed 4,962 people including 3,139 appointments in aided schools, 92 in Higher Secondary and 23 in VHSC.

774 persons were recruited through PSC in KSFE. The Health Department employed 3,069 people including 2,491 temporary assignments in Covid First-line Treatment Centres (CFLTCs). 453 people got placements in PSUs and 180 in the Local Self Government Department.

“In view of the Covid pandemic, it was announced that 50,000 jobs would be created in the non-agricultural sector in 100 days, 100 projects programme. It is a proud achievement that we are setting an example by creating new jobs in Kerala when employment is declining all over the world during the Covid period. At the same time, as part of the Subhiksha Kerala project, a large number of jobs will be created in the agricultural and fisheries sectors”, the CM added.
