Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 20: 6,028 new active cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala on fiday (20)  even as 6,398 patients have recovered from the disease. 5,213 people were infected through contact and the contact source for 654 was not traceable. There were 56 medical and paramedical staffs among those infected. Meanwhile, 28 deaths were confirmed today as being caused by Covid taking the related death toll in the State to 1,997.

60,365 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 9.98%. A total of 57,49,016 samples have so far been sent for testing.

The district-wise numbers of those who tested positive today for Coronavirus are Malappuram 1054, Kozhikode 691, Thrissur 653, Palakkad 573, Ernakulam 554, Kollam 509, Kottayam 423, Alappuzha 395, Thiruvananthapuram 393, Kannur 251, Pathanamthitta 174, Kasargod 138, Wayanad 135 and Idukki  85. Of those diagnosed today, 105 have travelled to the state from outside.

The district-wise figures for the locally transmitted cases are Malappuram 996, Kozhikode 641, Thrissur 639, Palakkad 351, Ernakulam 387, Kollam 505, Kottayam 420, Alappuzha 392, Thiruvananthapuram 285, Kannur 176, Pathanamthitta 118, Kasaragod 126, Wayanad 125 and Idukki 52.

The count for the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Ernakulam 18, Thiruvananthapuram 7, Palakkad 6, Pathanamthitta & Kannur 5 each; Malappuram, Kozhikode & Wayanad 3 each, Kollam & Kasargod 2 each, and Kottayam & Thrissur 1 each.

The test results of 6,398 patients were negative today and their figures from the districts are Thiruvananthapuram 611, Kollam 664, Pathanamthitta 137, Alappuzha 824, Kottayam 301, Idukki 62, Ernakulam 545, Thrissur 803, Palakkad 497, Malappuram 740, Kozhikode 634, Wayanad 151, Kannur 295 and Kasaragod 134.

At present, there are 67,831 patients undergoing treatment while a total of 4,81,718 people have so far recovered from Covid in the State.

There are 3,15,518 people totally under isolation across the state – 2,99,089 at their homes or  institutional quarantine centres and 16,429 in hospitals. 2,032 persons were admitted to the hospitals today.

One place each in Idukki, Palakkad and Ernakulam districts were declared as hotspot today even as 11 areas were excluded. There are 557 hotspots in Kerala now.
