Acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap said that he would not compromise on his beliefs or political convictions for ensuring the success of his movies. He was delivering this year’s masterclass as part of The International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK 2022).
Kashyap said that his films are usually appreciated more by foreign audiences than in India, and he still has to struggle to find financing for his films. “I don’t find this many people among the audience for the screening of my movies!” quipped the filmmaker, who spoke in detail about his conservative upbringing, his journey to Mumbai and his struggles as a filmmaker.
Kashyap declared that he could not make movies any other way. His style of filmmaking has been a product of years of intense struggle.
He said, “I was consuming movies day and night while working as a writer for uncredited TV shows to make a living to keep the dream alive.”
Artistic director for IFFK, Bina Paul, conducted the interview part of the masterclass. A question and answer session followed the masterclass.
