Speaking at the ‘In Conversation’programme, held as part of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK 2022) today, renowned Bangladeshi actress Azmeri Haque Badhon said that patriarchy still rule the Bangladeshi film industry as well as society.
“In my country, women above 30 neither receive respect nor find relevant work in the film industry, or in society. However, I won the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival for Rehana Maryam Noor when I was 34 years old!’’ she said, adding that this happened solely due to her perseverance.
Azmeri Haque Badhon, who won wide praise for her extraordinary performance as the protagonist in Rehana Maryam Noor, said many of the incidents in the film reminded her of her childhood and the perilous incidents she had lived through.
Badhon confessed that she had disagreed with the climax of the film and had found it very difficult to film it. She also called on Bangladeshi filmmakers to narrate stories from the female perspective.
