The first We-Park, developed as part of the Tourism Department’s visionary project to transform unused flyovers into vibrant public spaces, has been established beneath the railway flyover opposite Kollam Town Hall. The Tourism Department invested Rs. 2 Crore to develop the park on 70 cents of land owned by the Public Works Department.
This initiative aims to revitalize vacant spaces under bridges by converting them into well-equipped parks featuring footpaths, playgrounds, exercise zones, and food kiosks. By doing so, it seeks to replace areas once associated with anti-social activities with safe and engaging community spaces.
Designed in line with the state’s design policy, the park offers a variety of amenities, including footpaths, badminton and basketball courts, a chess block, a skating track, an open gym, a yoga-meditation zone, a snack bar, and street furniture.
Kerala Tourism Infrastructure Limited, under the Tourism Department, is responsible for implementing the project. The ongoing maintenance and management of the park are overseen by a joint committee comprising the Public Works Department, Tourism Department, Kollam Corporation, DTPC, and other allied departments.
