As part of the Kerala Chicken Project, Kudumbashree has established a chicken meat processing plant and a mini processing unit in the state to manufacture frozen chicken value-added products. The facilities are located in Kadinamkulam and Anayara in Thiruvananthapuram district. The Kadinamkulam plant will focus on producing and releasing frozen chicken value-added products.

Currently, Kudumbashree is marketing frozen products in partnership with Meat Products of India through the Kerala Chicken Project. However, Kudumbashree will soon launch its own Kerala Chicken frozen products at the Kadinamkulam plant. The Anayara Mini Processing Unit will handle the marketing of chilled chicken products, including varieties such as Alfaham cut, curry cut, biryani cut, and whole chicken.

The Kadinamkulam plant processes chicken meat and produces value-added products through a semi-automated poultry processing line using scientific methods, ensuring high-quality products. Supermarkets will initially sell these products under the Kudumbashree Kerala Chicken brand. It aims to expand the market for Kerala-made chicken products, empowering women to start businesses in this sector and increasing the income of entrepreneurs.

Launched by the state government in 2019, the Kudumbashree Kerala Chicken Scheme was designed to stabilise prices in the broiler marketing sector, provide consistent income for Kudumbashree members, and produce and market 50% of Kerala’s domestic market for broiler chicken. Under this scheme, Kudumbashree Broiler Farmers Producer Company Limited (KBFPCL) was formed to streamline the production, marketing, and sale of chicken meat.

Currently, around 450 farms and 140 marketing outlets are operational across Kerala, providing regular income to approximately 700 families. Integration of farmers and outlets has resulted in Rs. 33.19 crore in earnings for poultry farmers and Rs. 45.40 crore for outlet beneficiaries. In the last financial year, the project achieved a turnover of Rs. 105 crore, bringing the total turnover to Rs. 354 crore to date. The Kerala Chicken brand is now known for its high-quality, reliable products, and this project is positioning Kerala as a model state for self-sufficiency in poultry production in the future.
