A comprehensive insurance package is being introduced for employees of KSRTC. This plan, created in partnership with the State Bank of India (SBI), will begin on June 4, 2025. KSRTC and SBI have signed an agreement for this, and all KSRTC employee accounts are being transferred to SBI as part of the scheme. A total of 22,095 permanent employees will be covered under this plan, and importantly, they will not have to pay any premium for the insurance.
The package offers several benefits in the event of an accident or death. In case of accidental death, the employee’s family will receive ₹1 crore, and if the death occurs in an air accident, the amount increases to ₹1.6 crore. If an employee becomes permanently and totally disabled due to an accident, they can receive up to ₹1 crore, and up to ₹80 lakhs for partial disability. For employees earning more than ₹25,000 per month, ordinary (non-accidental) death will result in ₹6 lakhs being given to the family.
Additional support is available in case of accidental death. Children of the deceased employee can receive up to ₹10 lakhs for education, and girl children may get ₹5 lakhs each for marriage assistance, with a maximum of ₹10 lakhs. Medical assistance will also be provided for treatment and medicine costs following an accident.
Along with this, employees have the option to join a medical insurance plan by paying an annual premium. This plan covers medical expenses from ₹2 lakhs to ₹15 lakhs, depending on the employee’s choice, and can be renewed up to the age of 75. Through this, the government is taking a major step towards providing safety and financial protection to KSRTC employees by introducing comprehensive insurance coverage.
