The Thiruvananthapuram Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) has implemented Surface-Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT), an advanced technology that improves the accuracy of cancer treatment. SGRT precisely targets cancer cells while protecting healthy tissues, reducing side effects.

Using 3D imaging, SGRT tracks body movements in real-time, ensuring radiation is delivered accurately. This method is commonly used for breast cancer, lung cancer, and other malignancies, minimizing unnecessary radiation exposure. Unlike traditional radiation therapy, SGRT eliminates the need for tattoo marks on the body and detects even the smallest movements for greater precision.

SGRT is particularly effective in breast cancer therapy, as it precisely targets tumour cells while protecting the heart and lungs from radiation exposure. The technology’s breathing-monitoring system further reduces risks and long-term side effects, ensuring safer and more effective treatment.

The use of modern technologies is bringing about major changes in cancer treatment. Surface Guided Radiation Therapy initiated at RCC is an example of this. Innovative techniques are a proud step forward in providing safe and high-quality treatment to cancer patients.
