The General Education Department is planning to introduce Zumba dance sessions in schools to support students’ mental health. This program is part of the state government’s anti-drug campaign “With Childhood and Youth”, which carries the message “Padanamaanu Lahari”(Education is the real addiction).

The goal is to keep children away from drugs by offering positive and healthy activities. Studies have shown that children with mental health struggles are more likely to be targeted by drug networks. In this context, Zumba is being introduced as a fun and energetic way to improve students’ mental and physical well-being.

Zumba and similar physical activities can help children build confidence, develop good posture, and stay motivated. Group participation also teaches them social and life skills. This initiative highlights the importance of mental health in today’s education system. The dance sessions will be led by trained instructors in schools. With the support of teachers and parents, this program not only promotes mental balance and fitness but also aims to build a drug-free future for the next generation.
