Six new hotspots, total 150

Thiruvananthapuram, June 08: Health Minister, Smt K K Shailaja has informed that 91 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala today. A 41-year-old person who had tested positive and was undergoing treatment at Thrissur Medical College died today. He arrived from the Maldives on May 16 with severe kidney failure and breathing issues. This is the 16th death in Kerala due to Covid.

27 people from Thrissur district, 14 in Malappuram district, 13 from Kozhikode district, eight in Kasargod district, five each from Kollam and Alappuzha districts, four from Kannur district, three each in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Ernakulam districts, two from Wayanad district and one from Palakkad district are those who tested positive for Coronavirus.

73 have returned from foreign countries (UAE-42, Kuwait-15, Oman-5, Russia-4, Nigeria-3, Saudi Arabia-2, Italy-1 & Jordan-1) and 15 have come back from other States (Maharashtra-6, Tamil Nadu-6, Delhi-2 & Karnataka-1). One person in Thrissur district got infected through primary contact. Two health workers from the district are also among those infected.

Meanwhile, the test results of the 11 patients who were diagnosed with the disease were negative today. Five patients from Kasargod district and two each in Palakkad, Wayanad and Kannur districts are those who have recovered. Till now, 814 patients have been cured and 1,174 are now undergoing treatment for Covid.

1,97,078 persons are under observation across the state. Of these, 1,95,307 are under surveillance at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 1,771 are isolated in hospitals. 211 people were admitted to the hospital today.

Over the past 24 hours, 3,827 samples have been sent for testing. So far, samples of 85,676 individuals (including the augmented samples) have been sent for testing. Of the available test results, 82,362 samples were negative. In addition, as part of Sentinel Surveillance, 22,357 samples were collected from priority groups such as health workers, guest workers, people with high social contacts, and 21,110 samples have been confirmed with no infection. So far, 1,13,956 samples have been tested including 5,923 repeat samples.

Six new places were declared as hotspots today and now there are 150 hotspots in Kerala. one place in Palakkad district and five in Malappuram district are the new hotspots.
