Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 26: Minister of Health, Smt K K Shailaja has informed that Covid-19 was confirmed in 2,476 people in Kerala today. 2,243 people were infected through contact and the source of infection of 175 was not traceable. 64 of the confirmed cases are those who arrived from foreign countries and 99, from other states. 69 healthcare workers were also infected by Coronavirus. Meanwhile, 1,351 patients under treatment for the disease have recovered and were discharged from hospitals today.

13 recent deaths were confirmed today as due to Covid taking the death toll to 257. The deceased are Thankappan Chettyar (80), Chellaiyan (85), Abdul Ghafoor (83), Abdul Rashid (50), Devanesan (74), Lilly Bai (65), Omana (53), Siraj (50), Sarakutty (79), Abdul Latif (50), Shijin (26) & Mary (72) from Thiruvananthapuram district and P P Ibrahim (63) from Kannur district. More deaths will be confirmed after further tests at NIV, Alappuzha.

The district-wise figures of the positive cases are 461 from Thiruvananthapuram district, 352 in Malappuram district, 215 from Kozhikode district, 204 in Thrissur district, 193 each from Alappuzha and Ernakulam districts, 180 in Pathanamthitta district, 137 from Kottayam district, 133 in Kollam district, 128 from Kannur district, 101 in Kasaragod district, 86 from Palakkad district, 63 in Idukki district and 30 from Wayanad district.

The number of contact cases district-wise are 445 from Thiruvananthapuram district, 332 in Malappuram district, 205 from Kozhikode district, 183 in Thrissur district, 179 from Ernakulam district, 164 in Alappuzha district, 145 from Pathanamthitta district, 134 in Kottayam district, 131 from Kollam district, 111 in Kannur district, 79 from Kasaragod district, 64 in Palakkad district, 50 from Idukki district and 21 in Wayanad district.

14 healthcare workers in Kasaragod district, 10 in Thrissur district, nine in Thiruvananthapuram district, seven each in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Malappuram and Kannur districts, three in Pathanamthitta district, two each in Kollam and Kozhikode districts, and one in Wayanad district were also infected. An INHS personnel in Ernakulam district was among those infected.

The patients who tested negative today are 201 from Thiruvananthapuram district, 58 in Kollam district, 43 from Pathanamthitta district, 95 in Alappuzha district, 59 from Kottayam district, 13 in Idukki district, 191 from Ernakulam district, 100 in Thrissur district, 66 from Palakkad district, 254 from Malappuram district, 150 in Kozhikode district, 32 from Wayanad district, 49 in Kannur district and 40 from Kasaragod district.

So far, 41,694 people have been cured of Covid and at present, 22,344 patients are undergoing treatment.

A total of 1,89,781 persons are under observation across the state, 1,72,135 at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 17,646 in hospitals. 2,098 people were hospitalised today.

The number of tests being conducted has increased with 40,352 samples being tested in the last 24 hours. A total of 15,25,792 samples have so far been sent for testing, including 1,69,312 samples from priority groups as part of Sentinel Surveillance.

10 new places were declared as hotspots today while 25 were exempted. Presently, there are 604 hotspots in Kerala.
