Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 14: 6,244 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Kerala today while 7,792 patients have recovered from the disease. Of the cases detected today, 5,745 are cases of local transmission and the source of infection in 364 was unknown. There are 36 healthcare workers among those infected.
Meanwhile, 20 recent deaths were confirmed as due to Covid taking the related death toll to 1,066. The deceased are Rajan Chettiar (76), Gino (62), Krishnankutty (80), Omana (68), Amala Ouseph (67) & Jayamathi Vijayakumari (61) from Thiruvananthapuram district, Shantamma (80) from Kollam district, Radhamani (69) & Younus Kunju (69) from Alappuzha district, M S John (84) & Kesava Pothuval (90) from Ernakulam district; Chandran (50), Alikutty (87), Misia Fathima (5 months), Abdurahman (56), Aboobacker (69) & Kunjan (80) from Malappuram district, Muhammad (85) & Seidalikutty (72) from Kozhikode district, and Kumaran (70) from Kannur district.
The district-wise numbers of those who tested positive for Coronavirus today are Malappuram 1,013, Ernakulam 793, Kozhikode 661, Thrissur 581, Thiruvananthapuram 581, Kollam 551, Alappuzha 456, Palakkad 364, Kottayam 350, Kannur 303, Kasargod 224, Pathanamthitta 169, Idukki 114 and Wayanad 84. Of those diagnosed, 18 are returnees from foreign countries and 81 from other States.
The figures from the districts for those infected through contact are Malappuram 934, Ernakulam 714, Kozhikode 649, Thrissur 539, Thiruvananthapuram 508, Kollam 527, Alappuzha 426, Palakkad 320, Kottayam 313, Kannur 273, Kasaragod 213, Pathanamthitta 152, Idukki 96 and Wayanad 81.
The count of the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Thiruvananthapuram 21, Kottayam 4, Malappuram 3, and Kollam, Ernakulam, Thrissur & Kozhikode 2 each.
The district-wise figures of the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 871, Kollam 625, Pathanamthitta 321, Alappuzha 574, Kottayam 143, Idukki 155, Ernakulam 823, Thrissur 631, Palakkad 449, Malappuram 1,519, Kozhikode 836, Wayanad 66, Kannur 436 and Kasaragod 343.
At present, there are 93,837 patients undergoing treatment while 2,15,149 people have been cured of Covid in the State till now.
There are 2,78,989 persons under observation across the state, 2,52,645 at their homes or at institutional quarantine centres and 26,344 in hospitals. 2,519 people were hospitalised today.
50,056 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. A total of 37,26,738 samples have so far been sent for testing.
Seven new places were demarcated as hotspots today while 14 areas were exempted. Presently, there are 653 hotspots in Kerala.
