The German director Veit Helmer explained that each film restoration takes a lot of time and effort. The restoration of each film is completed through complex and costly process. People forget about their films and go for another film, forgetting about restoration.
He also urged the filmmakers to think about restoration so that they could pass their films on to the next generation. He was speaking at the “In Conversation with” programme at the International Festival. The primary challenge in the restoration is finding the original prints of particular films. Later, “Mahatma on celluloid”, written by Prakash Magdum, was handed over to Adoor Gopalakrishnan.
